Welcome to the Gympie Family History Society

We are here to provide support, help and advice to those wishing to discover more about their family history.  Over the last 45 years, the Gympie Family History Society has accumulated a comprehensive collection of resources in print and digital formats. We offer a library full of rare books and thousands of curated Gympie Family histories.  We also have information on all the local cemeteries, military history, gold mining history, and house history.

The Gympie Family History Society has many volunteers who staff the resource centre located at 1 Chapple Street, Gympie.  The rooms are staffed Wednesday (9.30am – 2pm), Friday (9.30 – 12pm) and Saturday (1pm – 4pm).

If you don’t live locally – no worries!  We offer research packages to suit everyone!

What Can You Do For Me?

Our research department combines experienced volunteers, extensive local resources and online tools to help you uncover your family story in Gympie and surrounding districts.  Whether you are just starting out or working on a detailed family tree, we can guide you to the right records and help you make sense of what you find.

Much of the information stored digitally in the rooms and in our archives is not available online.  You would be surprised what we have at the Gympie Family History Society.

While we’re all volunteers, donations and research fees help keep our services running. These funds support the digitisation, preservation, and expansion of our collections—so we can continue to make them available now and for future generations.

We have volunteers who are ready to tackle our collections to research and find the answers you want…and maybe something unexpected!

Phone us on (07) 5482 8211 for more information or contact us via our contact form.
