Other Gympie Family History Society, Interest Groups
GFHS FTM Interest Group – the Family Tree Maker program is a fantastic tool, especially if you have always wanted to organise your family research, attach photographs after digitising your albums, keep all your documents and BMD registers associated with the various members of the tree, or just begin to build your family tree, then this talk is for you. FTM (which is one of many commercial software packages available today. This program is reasonably priced and has enormous capabilities and possibilities that everyone can master in a short amount of time with little computer experience.) The talk will run as a step-by-step tutorial on how to add people to your tree, add children, uncles and grandparents, as well as show the actual process of adding data, documents, or images to each of the associated people.
GFHS DNA Interest Group – This Group seeks to share information on aspects of genetic family history. Which DNA Company is best for me? What do I do with my DNA matches? How do I find my parents through DNA? There are many questions that we discuss at our DNA group. You never know where it takes you till you start looking. We discuss our family trees, encourage each other through support, there is lots to learn through discussion. How we each document the Family tree, how to colour code the matches. Support and collaboration at each step of the genetic genealogy experience.
GFHS BRICKWALLS Group – Researching your family history can be fun, and yet it can get disappointing or frustrating when your avenues for research, or your family history clues, dry up. Maybe you have problems understanding documents, or maybe they do not have enough information. More often than not, someone else has already run across the problems you are facing, so maybe as a group, we all know several heads are better than one, and we can be help each other.
GFHS Library – our library facilities, rooms and members are available to assist your family history research needs. With a growing collection of Gympie and Wide Bay information, documents, books, lists, clippings, data, and plenty local knowledge and history. So whether it be local orientated research, or, assisting with your interstate and international family history research interests, come in and see us, or make an appointment. And, check out our new society access to several digital databases, including Ancestry, My Heritage and The Genealogist to name the big ones, but there are many others we are gathering for members.
