Projects in progress

Volunteers needed

Our projects are completed by individuals or a collective group for the benefit of the Gympie and Wide Bay region. It doesn’t matter if you can only spare an hour or a few weeks – you are welcome to join us.

We need a diverse set of skills, such as

  • researchers interested in the history of families, places and/or events
  • party planners and hosts for promotional events
  • marketeers and wordsmiths to promote our achievements and get funding grants, and
  • technology geeks to build and maintain databases, services and websites.

Can you help with any of these projects?

Weddings, Then and now

We are working towards a display for an exhibit to take place in 2025.

Our vision

To feature weddings of anyone who has lived in the district in the past 150 years.  It does not matter if the marriage was local or away from the region – or happened last century or last week.  So long as the persons lived in the district at some time.

Photos and wedding keepsakes

We are seeking wedding photos and other keepsakes such as invitations, newspaper clippings etc for the display. Perhaps someone still has a piece of the wedding cake?

Where possible you should identify the persons in the photos. If you cannot provide all these details then we can do some research for the missing details.

  • Full maiden name of the bride
  • Full name of the groom
  • Date and place of marriage, and
  • Any stories about the couple or event that can be shared with the public.

Email us copies of photos

We do not need your original photos.  Instead, we want copies or scans of your photos and keepsakes so there is no risk they will be damaged. The images will be printed and added to our folders for display.

Please complete the wedding project form and email it to us at gympiefamilyhistory@gmail.com.

Or visit us at our rooms

If you do not want to risk your photos, we can scan them at our rooms during opening hours. You can also complete the wedding project form while you wait.

Updating our website

Most website pages have had a makeover so it is easier to navigate and find content.

In the coming weeks we are adding a shopping cart and online payments.

Are you interested in UX, UI design or building website pages? Then we would love to hear from you.

Digitising paper collections

We have many paper records that are being scanned, index and digitised. In the future researchers will be able to access these records by our website – but that is the future.

But right now we need

  • volunteers to scan and index records.
  • A3 scanners for the larger records

Can you donate equipment or a little time to help us?
